Botox

Botox (botulinum toxin) is a toxin obtained from the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. It works by blocking the release of substances responsible for nerve transmission, halting communication between nerves and the organs they connect to. For aesthetic and cosmetic purposes, it can be used to reduce and prevent wrinkles caused by facial-expression muscle movement, reduce excessive sweating, and treat chronic migraine.

It is applied via injection and is not a painful procedure; mild discomfort may be felt at the moment of injection. Its effect begins 3-4 days after injection and fully settles within the first week; the effect lasts 4-6 months. There are no serious side effects; temporary swelling, bruising and, rarely, temporary eyelid drooping may occur.

You can return to daily life immediately after the procedure. Prolonged bending over and straining the facial muscles should be avoided; the head should be kept elevated for the first four hours, avoiding bending forward. A warm shower can be taken after about eight hours; cold water is preferable.
